What’s a Medicare Advantage Plan?

A Medicare Advantage plan combines hospital (Part A) and medical (Part B) coverage in one plan. Some Medicare Advantage (often referred to as “MA”) plans cover prescription drugs (Part D) too.

Medicare Advantage plans are offered through private companies, like Health Partners Plans. They are an affordable option for many Medicare beneficiaries. In fact, your out-of-pocket costs often are lower in an MA plan. For these reasons, millions of Americans enjoy all the advantages of a Medicare Advantage plan.

What can a Medicare Advantage plan offer?

Many MA plans offer extra coverage and benefits that Original Medicare doesn’t cover, including:

  • Dental coverage
  • Vision coverage and eyewear allowance
  • Hearing aid benefit
  • Fitness club memberships
  • Transportation benefit
  • Over-the-counter health items allowance
  • Worldwide emergency coverage

Copay, coinsurance and premium costs vary among MA plans.

Picking the Right Plan

Many Medicare beneficiaries find that MA plans better fit their needs for a lower out-of-pocket price than Original Medicare. Choosing the right Medicare plan depends on your personal situation and how much you want to pay.
